Because my house is pretty small it's easy for my STUFF to get jammed into closets and then just stay there forever. This is a set-up for allowing your space to get stagnant. You can really tell when you're surrounded by stagnant energy...your creativity and mental acuity are dull in a stagnant room, you don't like to go in there, you can't get anything done in that room. A clear and fresh feeling only comes when everything is clean, organized and sans clutter.
There are simple cures for stagnant chi. At the very least, clean whatever you can. At the very best, do a thorough cleaning and get rid of everything that is uselessly taking up space. (think "spring cleaning") Deluxe version: new furniture and new paint, but that's certainly not necessary unless what you have is shabby and worn.
So back to my house...I did a small project yesterday that had huge payback for me. I switched the contents of 2 closets so that my sleeping room's closet was now my clothes closet. Until yesterday, it was my catchall closet, dating back to when the room was my project room. The stuff in there is important but just not in the "daily use" category, so it was full of "sludgy" chi, making the whole room feel sluggish. After Dan & I finished the switch, he said the room felt "softer" and much more comfortable. The room itself doesn't even look any different, it was just that the inside of the closet had a nice makeover. See photo. :-)
