Dinner with neighbors

Last night a neighbor cooked for a couple of us who live on this hall and it was fantastic. Clyde likes to cook and i think i'll be quite happy if he continues to invite us over. However, it did wake up a latent desire to cook for other people so i'm already planning a dinner for them. Probably Vietnamese rice soup. He served us green curry (with grape tomatoes, grapes, & red bell pepper among other things), tonkatsu with 3 delicious sauces, lots of pickled ginger, and a nice rice with grated carrots. There was so much none of us could finish!

My contribution was brownies....one of Mark's recipes. He might not want me to make his recipes public, so until I get permission, I'll just say it has brown sugar in it, which I think makes a brownie special. The other tip is one I picked up from a recipe for hot chocolate in a blog I like. It simply said use only chocolate that you like to eat. So I went to the Food Co-op which has a good selection of chocolate bars and bought 4 different kinds. I took a taste of each, picked 3 that I liked most and measured out 8 oz....and voila! A great combo if I do say so myself. The surprise to me was that I picked 2 Paul Newman bars: one dark chocolate, and the other an espresso dark chocolate. The third bar was Theo's Jane Goodall dark chocolate.

Last night they were warm and gooey. This a.m. they were nicely chewy. Will donate a bunch to the manager's office for the tenants to enjoy. Freeze some. Let Lara have some. (She's coming here today to see the Procession of the Species.)
