Today I am planning to go go on a little photography jaunt with Susan. Skies are cloudy, rain looks probable but accuweather.com says not to worry. We're going to McLane Creek.
I've done some awesome salmon stewarding shifts there. The salmon are completely wild (none of them end up in hatcheries) and very close-up. For a while, there were some very accommodating spawning groups right next to the little broken bridge. We got to watch literally every stage of spawning. And I was able to fill everyone in on what they were looking at, which turned them into a rapt audience. Otherwise they would've just taken a quick peek and then finished their nature walk. Well, not all of them; some know way more than I do, which isn't hard I guess. My point is that I get a lot of joy in teaching people about nature in a way that they will increase their respect for their surroundings. And hopefully increase their own ecological practices.
If the weather holds up and I get some good pictures, they will be posted here later. Wish me luck.
