Coney Island

I finally got to see Coney Island today. I've always wondered what it was like and thought it was crazy to keep coming to Brooklyn without seeing it. You know, though, I usually come when it's cold, so it makes sense. And today was really good weather for it...not hot, not cold. I found out a little about it. "Coney Island" is 3 things: boardwalk, amusement park and beach. The park has tons of rides and the girls got to do 2 of them today - boat ride and train ride. The beach is huge and has nice little lapping waves; it looks across at the New Jersey coast. The boardwalk is being re-vitalized and is quite nice. I can imagine what a zoo it will be in the warmer weather.

Mia and I couldn't help it...had to take off our shoes and go wading. That water is icy, though...I keep trying to re-live my childhood at beaches, but they never measure up to even the worst beach in Hawaii. The sand is never white and clean and soft. The water is dark, not even close to turquoise blue. And it's never never never warm. Do I have to go to Roratonga to find a perfect non-Hawaiian beach?

Claudine finally couldn't take the waves anymore and left the water's edge with Mark, saying "It's too loud for me." Enough of my journalizing....here are pictures!
