Conversations with Mia

Mia is getting to be quite the conversationalist on the phone now. Today we had our best conversation yet. I'm going to try to capture a couple of things that she said:

I told her that I thought her school was terrific and she's going to be soooo smart in kindergarten. Yeah, she says, so I probably won't have to go to kindergarten. Oh, really? I ask innocently, knowing that she's showing signs of cold feet about going to public school this fall. Then she allows that maybe she will have to go after all since they haven't studied math and a few other things yet. Like shapes. I say wow, I thought you did shapes last year, no? She says no. I say but you know all your shapes! She said yes, but (here it comes) she figures that "there must be some shapes that only teachers know about."

Here's another, but you probably hadda be there. (Well, you probably had to be there for the other story, too.) I'll try anyway. OK, I ask her to give me a hug on the phone which she did. Quite noisily and there was no doubt that I was getting a big athletic hug. I tell her I'm going to give her kisses and do so, multiple times so she didn't miss out. Afterwards I explained that those were kisses on her neck....did they tickle??? Yes....she wasn't terribly excited about them but I'm a little slow so thought it would be OK to give her some more. I ask if I can give her kisses on her tummy. (here it comes) "No, I'm OK." I guess she put me in my place, eh? She'll learn someday how to humor Gramma.

There, I think that's about all the fun you can take for the moment. Besides, I need to get a life.
